ID&T’s ground-breaking Netherlands dance festival Mysteryland turned 20 this year, celebrating with a massive edition on Saturday August 24 – and if you weren’t there in the flesh to see Fedde Le Grand, Steve Aoki, Steve Angello, Headhunterz, Caspa and many more, you can at least console yourself by watching their official after-movie, below.
If the epic Ultra Music Festival after-movie that came out on Tuesday is like a Martin Scorsese film, then Mysteryland’s after-movie is like Guillermo del Toro – a psychedelic trip into an alternate reality of ecstatic, face-painted revellers. The film shows just how much effort goes into the production at Mysteryland to create a magical universe – not just the fireworks, lights and smoke cannons on the mainstage, but also the roaming tripped-out artists, forest decorations and mini-villages – there was even a hot-shave barber on site. (The video for part two, still to come, will delve deeper into the world of the Mysteryland artists, performers and DJs.)
If you’re in North or South America later this year or early next year then you can experience Mysteryland for yourself, when the third South American edition takes place in Chile from December 20, or catch Mysteryland’s US debut at the old Woodstock site from May 23, 2014 – and there are even rumours that Australia may get its own Mysteryland edition in 2014.
