Right now, bass don Skrillex is taking his Mothership tour across America, accompanied by his friends like Milo & Otis, What So Not, DJ Snake and Dillon Francis. Currently in Toronto (where he joined Deadmau5 for the most star-studded ‘Coffee Run’ yet), Skrillex is keeping the road-show rolling until the end of July, with shows at Governors Ball in New York, Bonnaroo, Red Rocks Amphitheatre and many more stops in-between.
While on the road, Skrillex took some time to catch up with Billboard, confirming what he first hinted at in March: There’s much more music to come from his studio in 2014. As well as the mini-EPs and singles he’ll be dropping, Billboard reports that the producer is also working on sound design for Transformers: Age Of Extinction, the next big-budget instalment from Michael Bay. For that job, he’s promising “the craziest Skrillex sounds I could ever make.”
“In the electronic world, it’s not as necessary to just release albums,” Skrillex put it to Billboard. “So even though I just put this record out [debut album Recess], I’m going to sprinkle in some singles and mini-EPs throughout the year. I’ve just been releasing so much music in so many different ways, and any EP I’ve made, like Bangarang and Scary Monsters…, they all have some dynamic in the sense the songs are all different and they’re not all bangers.”
Meanwhile, he’s also been working with Diplo in the studio ahead of Jack U’s headline slot at HARD Summer this August. “I’ve just known him for so long, and we’ve made so many records together,” he told Billboard of the Mad Decent boss. ”It’s just a lot of fun for him and I to get in the studio and make jokes and just really try to come up with the most annoying sounds ever. What we try to do is make the stupidest thing ever and make it actually work – that’s our only thing.” Head here to read the full interview.
